Boot Camp: Career Expo Prep - 8:30 Sessions

Workshop/Training | Focused Friday

BOOT CAMP: Career Expo Prep

Three sessions (repeated at 9:30 and 11:30) to help you prepare for the upcoming Huntsman Career Expo.

Resumes (HH 370): Whether you have never created a resume, or you're on your 100th revision, this workshop is for you. We will discuss what employers want to see on a resume as well as what you should leave off. You'll leave knowing how to articulate your experience in a business context, highlighting your qualifications and skills to employers. If you already have a resume, bring it with you so you can leave with an improved draft!

Elevator Pitches/Networking/Interview Strategies: (HH 260): Personal elevator pitches and interviews make many feel uncomfortable. The good news is that confidence comes with preparation and practice. This workshop is designed to help you feel confident for the Huntsman Career Expo. Remember, first impressions are often the most memorable.

Career Fair Prep/Dress for Success: (HH 320): No matter what your past experiences (or lack of experiences) have been with career fairs, it's likely you may have questions about how to prepare and make the upcoming expo successful. This workshop will review what you need to know, what to expect, and ultimately how to stand out and be remembered by company contacts.

Arrington Mormon History Lecture Presented by Richard White

Lecture/Readings

All the possibilities that arose with nineteenth-century American railroads seemed magnified in the transcontinentals, which came to epitomize progress, nationalism, and civilization itself. But to understand the significance of these railroads on the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Pacific Railroad, we need to look at what they collectively achieved and what they failed to achieve. They remade the continent, but this was not necessarily always a good thing. The 25th Arrington Lecture will be presented by Richard White on September 19, 2019, 7:00 pm, in the Logan Tabernacle.

A Day of Giving

Fundraiser | Homecoming

In 1888, the Agricultural College of Utah was founded as the state's land-grant institution in 1888. For more than 131 years, Aggies have lived, believed and proven that we can achieve more when we work together than we ever could on our own. At no other time is this more celebrated than during homecoming week and on A Day of Giving, when each of us is instrumental in helping the University reach our goal. Aggies can make a gift of any size to the designation of their choice. Visit www.adayofgiving.usu.edu for more info.

Voting Rights 1870, 1920, 1965, 2020

Conference/Seminar

In 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified, granting many women in the nation the right to vote for the first time. Fifty years earlier, Utah had been among the first territories to enfranchise women. Despite these advances, the history of enfranchisement still excluded key groups, even after the Voting Rights Act of 1965. To reflect on these important anniversaries, USU's College of Humanities and Social Sciences hosts an interdisciplinary Tanner-funded symposium: Voting Rights: 1870, 1920, 1965, 2020. The keynote address is by Dr. Carol Anderson, author of One Person, No Vote, supported by USU's Center for Women & Gender. This symposium is designed to commemorate the historic events, but a to go one step further in reflecting on two important questions:
1) Who was left out of these landmark changes and with what consequences?
2) And how do we contextualize ongoing struggles for access to voting rights?
Events include scholarly papers, posters, a suffrage sing-along, and a suffrage film festival and the venues include the USU campus as well as downtown Logan.
