Senior Design Night is a community event held each semester for graduating seniors from the College of Engineering to show off their high-tech senior design projects. Parents and members of the community are welcome to attend.

The USU College of Engineering Senior Design Night celebrates the accomplishments of our graduating seniors. Over the course of their senior year, students spend about 400 hours designing and realizing a real-world engineering project. On Senior Design Night, projects will be displayed and students will be on hand to discuss their work. Seniors and their families and the campus community are invited to attend.

Night Sky Navigation Workshop

Join us for an introductory workshop in night sky navigation! Paul Ricketts, Director of the University of Utah's Observatory, will guide us in learning to use star maps to locate objects in a telescope. We will have 5 telescopes available so everyone has the opportunity to gain hands-on experience.

Note - Our previous 3 attempts at holding this event have been cancelled due to cloud cover! We hope that spring will bring clearer skies, but please check your email the afternoon of the event in case we have to cancel and refund you.

Little Naturalist is the perfect program for 3 to 5 year olds who are curious about animals, their habitats, the environment, and exploring nature. Join us twice a month, October through May, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. to read a specially selected nature-themed book, explore the natural world, and complete a craft. Some favorites include snowshoeing on the Preserve, interacting with live reptiles and amphibians, upcycling old materials into holiday decorations, and much more!

Saving the Monarchy: One Milkweed at a Time

Monarch butterfly populations in the west are at an all-time low. Join us as we discuss the symbiotic relationship between Monarchs and Milkweed and learn how we can help the threatened monarch butterfly population survive and reproduce.

Guests will learn from local community scientist, Rachel Taylor, how to propagate and grow drought-tolerant, native milkweed to attract monarch butterflies back to the community.

(Milkweed seedlings supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.)

Trying to ditch the plastic in your life? Join us and learn how to make beautiful and environmentally friendly reusable beeswax wraps. These wraps can be used to keep food fresh as an alternative to plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Make a set of wraps to use at home and leave with the skills to make more!

Supplies will be provided. However, if you have a 100% cotton fabric that you would like to make wraps out of, feel free to bring it along.

Helicon West presents Michael McLane. McLane holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Colorado State University and an MS in Environmental Humanities from the University of Utah. For the past seven years, he has served as the director for both the Center for the Book of Utah Humanities and the Utah Humanities Book Festival. He leaves Utah this summer to begin a PhD program at Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand. Free, uncensored, open microphone and Caffe Ibis coffee.
