About This Degree
The Asian studies program focuses on the study of peoples, cultures, and institutions of Asia.
What You Will Learn
Coursework is multidisciplinary, consisting of history, geography, and Asian language classes. Through the program, students obtain an understanding of the foundation and functioning of political, economic, and social institutions of Asia. They also gain proficiency in at least one Asian language and develop an understanding of similarities and differences among Asian nations with respect to ethnicity, history, culture, religion, and institutions.
It is highly recommended, but not required, that students spend at least one term of their education participating in a study abroad program. Living and studying in Asia provides students with a greater depth of knowledge and experience that cannot be gained in a classroom setting.

Career Opportunities
Asian studies majors graduate with the skills necessary for a wide variety of careers. They are also well-prepared for graduate school. Graduates with a bachelor’s degree can pursue the following careers:
- Translator
- Training and development (training employees from companies who will work abroad)
- International business
- Humanitarian aid
- International relations
- Teaching
The Career and Design Center provides counseling and information on hundreds of job and internship opportunities and even helps students apply and interview.

Admission
Admission Requirements
In addition to Utah State University’s admissions requirements, the Asian studies program has additional requirements:
- Freshmen: New freshmen admitted to USU in good standing qualify for admission to this major.
- Transfer Students: Transfer students from other institutions need a 2.5 GPA for admission to this major. Students transferring from other USU majors need a GPA of 2.0 for admission to this major.
International students have additional admissions requirements.
Program Requirements
It is highly recommended, but not required, that students complete at least one term of living and studying experience in Asia.
